My Tools

I'm an Apple guy

I've been using a Mac since Leopard. I enjoy focusing on my work intead of fighting with my machine.

Terminal

Over the years using Mac, I've fallen in love with it's Unix backbone. I'm comfortable in Terminal and comfortable with BASH and SSH. I use Terminal as my interface with Git. I've even completed Dunnet.

Textmate

I use Textmate as my primary editor. Mostly because I've grown accustomed to it, and have had no real reason to change. The syntax hilighting for the languages I use works very well. I'm not exactly a power user, and I'd like to level-up.

CodeKit

While watching one of Chris Coyier's screencasts, I was turned on to CodeKit. It's been a game changer, I leveled-up overnight. The ease of use for pre-processed languages such as Sass has made my life much easier. It helps me stay organized by allowing me to easily switch between projects. The live reloading across multiple devices makes writing responsive code a breeze. I have yet to try Grunt or Gulp, but CodeKit hasn't left me in a position yet to make tackeling the learning curve worth it. I would be glad to jump on those technologies if it were required for a project, however.

Git

Git is my version control system of choice. I use it for all my front end and back-end projects. I've learned to deploy with it as well using a remote repository, and a hook. When working localy I use it primarally to stay organized and save my work. I'm familiar enough with pushing, pulling, and merging to make trasitioning to a team workflow very easy. I was first introduced to Git while watching a Ryan Bates Railscast, and since have taken several courses on the technology.

Chrome

Chrome is my browser of choice for development. I check my work in as many browsers as possible, on as many platforms as possible, as often as possible, but I build with Chrome. It's the developer tools that make the decision for me. I feel like the UI is much more intuitive than Safari's.
